While internationalization in various fields is rapidly increasing, Kure, in an effort to expand international exchange, has established sister city affiliations with several overseas cities.
First, was Bremerton, Washington in 1970. Second was Marbella in Mallaga,Spain in 1990. Third was Nawa-cho,in Saihaku-gun,Tottori Prefecture in September 1995.
It is Kure's first sister city relationship with a city in Japan. And the Iatest sister city is Chinhae in Korea in October 1999.
Sister city affiliations have been established to further develop each city and to deepen friendship with local people, through cultural, educational, industrial and economic exchange. A wide range of exchange activities are currently being carried out.
