Introduction of Kure City

City of Kure
View of Kure city from Mt.Haigamine
"The glittering sea, dotted with numerous islands, each individually attractive ....." It's the Seto Inland Sea, on which the glorious and peaceful city of Kure is located. The city once thrived as one of the biggest Naval Bases in the East, but during the War it was reduced to ashes by heavy bombing. It has a population of 210,000 and is developing as part of the Seto Inland Sea littoral industry belt. In the city, vestiges of the former Japanese Naval Base are found here and there, which tell the peculiar history of its surviving hard times.
You can relax in one of the many beauty spots around the city area, and after sightseeing, enjoy sampling "sake" brewed in the city and local seafood, fresh from the Seto Inland Sea. Beauty spots on the outskirts of Kure such as Etajima, Miyajima, Hiroshima, Iwakuni, and Matsuyama in Shikoku, can be readily visited.
